Late Season Concerns

Overall, the peanut crop still looks great. We look to be a few weeks out from digging except for a of couple fields. This is a good thing considering the potential of Tropical storm Isaac visiting us next week.  The negative side to Isaac will be the increase in disease pressure as a result of the cloudy and rainy weather. White mold is very active all over the state.  The weather conditions we’ve had over the last weeks have given the disease plenty of fuel to develop and spread in the field.  Growers need to continue to scout their fields for diseases and insects.  We will begin to have maturity clinics starting next week. Please contact your county agent or peanut buying point for times and locations.
