2012 Variety Evaluations for Disease Resistance and Performance

I have received a lot of questions over the last week regarding variety performance and disease resistance compared to Bailey (our new standard). With this in mind, I have pulled together all of our results from this past year.  Remember to keep in mind the disease package when picking a variety (Not just Yield and Grade).   A susceptible variety could cost you an extra $30.00 to $50.00 per acre over the growing season compared to Bailey.   Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Rating Unit

1. LB = pound per acre

2. % Disease = percent White Mold (Sclerotium rolfsii) per plot

3. 1-10 = 1-10 index/scale: 1 = no disease, 2 = very few lesions in canopy, 3 = few lesions noticed in lower and upper canopy, 4 = some leaf spotting and ≤ 10 percent defoliation, 5 = lesions noticeable and ≤ 25 percent defoliation, 6 = lesions numerous and ≤ 50 percent defoliation, 7 = lesions very numerous and ≤ 75 percent defoliation, 8 = numerous lesions on few remaining leaves and ≤90 percent defoliation, 9 = very few remaining leaves covered with lesions and ≤ 95 percent defoliation, and 10 = plants defoliated

4. % Stunting = percent of plot with TSWV stunted plants

5. Means followed by same letter do not significantly differ (P=.05, LSD)
